"What I Really Think Today" aspires to be a thoughtful, intelligent, no-name-calling discussion on political paths forward for Democrats, liberals, progressives, leftists, and moderate Republicans.
We all saw and see, and many feel, the anger and fear over the election of Donald Trump. I think we might see paths forward if we have a forum where we do more listening and thinking than weeping and wailing.My first series of Substack commentaries will be on this hot topic:

*By "we," I mean Democrats, progressives, liberals, and leftists. If you don't think we, collectively, seriously erred in at least a dozen ways, then you need to join my discussion. We can do better.
If you're ever asked, "Why do they vote against their own interests?" then please subscribe. That is one of the key question we'll discuss.
All commentaries will be on Substack, not here.
I intend it to work this way: I post a commentary and seek comments. Then, maybe come up with answers.
Everyone is welcome to subscribe and participate, but the key phrase is "thoughtful, intelligent, no name-calling." There will be rules enforcing civility and relevance. All civiized, intelligent, and potentially useful points of view are welcome (Yes, conservative voices, too).

If there is one advantage to being old and broke as I start this discussion, it is that, in economic terms and in terms of who belongs to favored constituencies, I’m one of the people my fellow Democrats have largely cast off. I see things most of you either don’t see or don’t care to acknowledge. Trump and his minions do see them – and cynically exploit them.
